The University Council is primarily responsible for establishing a strategic direction that aligns with the rules and regulations of the Organic Statute and the policies of the Board of Trustees. It provides a roadmap for achieving institutional objectives, outlines a compelling vision for the future of the institution, monitors progress towards desired goals, and ensures that governance processes are appropriate. The Council has the authority to decide on the system of studies and examinations to be adopted by the University.
According to the Organic Statute, which governs the composition and authority of the Council, this oversight body consists of the Rector, who chairs it, Vice Rectors, Secretary General, Bursar, Antonine professed members, deans of faculties, directors of academic departments, directors and administrative directors of regional campuses, Director of the Antonine School of Music, Director of the Office of Orientation and Admissions, as well as faculty and student representatives.
Article 79 of the aforementioned Statute states that the Council holds 2 annual plenary meetings. If there is a need to schedule recurring meetings during the academic year to deliberate over specific matters, attendance shall be limited to top-level and middle managers. The Council may delegate any of its powers to a competent body, such as the Academic Committee, which focuses on academic policies, programs, issues, and reforms, all of which fall within its scope.
