Meet Sunbula: The Spirit of UA
|
Sunbula is more than UA’s mascot—it is a symbol of the University identity, community, and spirit.
Inspired by Our Lady of the Seeds, Sunbula takes the form of a wheat ear, carrying a story of growth, abundance, faith, and human flourishing. Rooted in UA’s heritage, Sunbula reflects the journey of every member of our community: growing with purpose, remaining grounded in values, and contributing to something greater than oneself. |
Inspired by Our Lady of the Seeds
Sunbula’s story begins with UA’s patron saint, Our Lady of the Seeds, a figure deeply connected to UA’s spiritual heritage and identity.
The wheat ear at the heart of the mascot evokes nourishment, renewal, and abundance. From a single seed comes growth; from many grains comes a harvest. In the same way, UA nurtures individuals while bringing them together as one community, creating the conditions for each person to learn, develop, contribute, and flourish.
Through this symbolism, Sunbula connects UA’s Catholic and Antonine heritage with its educational mission and its commitment to integral human development.
Growing With Purpose
At UA, education extends beyond the acquisition of knowledge. It is a journey that forms the whole person.
Like a seed that is planted, nurtured, and given the conditions to flourish, every student is encouraged to develop intellectually, personally, socially, and spiritually. Sunbula gives this idea a recognizable and joyful form, reminding us that growth is continuous and that education finds its fullest meaning when knowledge, values, and purpose come together.
A Symbol of Who We Are
- Community and Belonging: A wheat ear is formed by many grains, just as UA is shaped by the individuals who make up its community. Sunbula brings students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the University together under a shared sense of identity and belonging.
- Growth and Resilience: Wheat grows through changing conditions while remaining firmly rooted. Sunbula represents the ability to adapt, persevere, and continue moving forward while staying grounded in one’s values.
- Faith and Heritage: Inspired by Our Lady of the Seeds, Sunbula reflects UA’s Catholic identity and Antonine heritage, connecting education with the formation of the whole person and reminding us that growth encompasses both knowledge and spirit.
- Joy and Connection: Sunbula brings warmth, energy, and personality to University life. Through celebrations, student activities, sports, and community events, the mascot creates memorable moments and strengthens the bonds that connect the UA community.
The Golden Spirit of Sunbula
Sunbula’s golden yellow draws directly from the color of wheat and reinforces the mascot’s connection to harvest, abundance, warmth, and light.
Bright and welcoming, the color gives Sunbula a distinctive presence while reflecting the optimism, energy, and sense of possibility associated with growth and flourishing.
Bringing Sunbula to Life
