Does Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Rupture in Children Require Surgery?

    Parents-Child-Surgeon Discussion

What is the right course of action to take when a child suffers an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture?

Children’s ACL rupture rates have increased significantly over the past few years as a result of their increased participation in intensive sports, which raises their risk of injury. Orthopedists constantly debate whether they should operate on them, running the risk of impairing the knee’s growth due to the surgery, or postpone the operation and restore normal function until the end of their growth periods. In an effort to clarify this issue, the Office of Athletics at Antonine University (UA), in collaboration with the Faculty of Sport Sciences (FSS), is organizing an awareness session presented in French to underline the importance of a thorough examination and discuss in detail the surgical techniques when one decides to operate.

The goal of this discussion between children, parents, and surgeons is to advise families so they can make informed decisions regarding possible interventions and suggestions on how to increase rehabilitation success rates.
