In line with Antonine University’s (UA) commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence, the Faculty of Music and Musicology (FMM), organized a specialized workshop in music education titled “Retraining Educators for the 21st Century: The Kodály and the Maqam Approaches.”

The session was led by Dr. Hayaf Yassine, Chairperson of the Department of General Musicology of Traditions and the Department of Arabic Art Music, and Associate Professor at the FMM, and Dr. Ibrahim Baltagi, Professor of Music Education.
Held at the Mejdlaya–Zgharta Campus, it gathered current students and alumni, eager to enhance their pedagogical skills. Through this interactive training, participants explored two distinct yet complementary approaches to teaching music—one rooted in the Kodály philosophy that emphasizes musical literacy and creativity, and the other in the Maqam tradition, which celebrates cultural identity and regional musical heritage.

The workshop encouraged educators to blend these perspectives within modern classrooms, fostering both technical proficiency and cultural awareness among learners.

By offering initiatives like this, UA continues to empower educators to innovate, preserve tradition, and bridge diverse musical worlds, advancing its mission to connect knowledge with human and cultural development.
